Improving rainfall infiltration in the uplands
We believe that prudent building of rock wedges (or "check-dams") is one of the best contributions people can make toward slowing erosion in our desert uplands. The links below provide both guidelines and illustrations of the means and ends of rock wedge construction. The seminar gives a detailed step-by-step tutorial. A more elaborate (and more laborious) kind of check-dam is the gabion -- see Building wedges & gabions for more information on these types of devices.
