Woolly Daisy (Eriophyllum lanosum)

Woolly Daisies are tiny plants -- height to no more than about 1 1/2 inches -- and their leaves are spatula-shaped, with dense, white woolly hairs and somewhat rounded tips. The flowers themselves are woolly, white, with yellow centers, on the ends of short, leafless stems.

Here is a field of them, not a common sight, but we encountered it on a ridge in our Northeastern uplands in early April 2004:
